Tuesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees won their 5th straight game, as they defeated the San Diego Padres, 8-0. Andy Pettitte pitched a gem, going 7 scoreless innings for the pinstripes, while Jason giambi belted 2 homeruns in the victory.
Andy Pettitte recorded the 171st win of his pinstriped career, moving past Guidry for sole possession of fourth place. Pettitte pitched 7 innings, giving up no runs, while scattering five hits, walking only one and striking out nine. Jose Veras, Billy Traber and Mariano Rivera finished up for the Yankees.
Alex Rodriguez opned the scoring for the Yankees with a homerun in the 2nd inning, which was his 13th of the season. Jason Giambi belted a solo shot to right in the second inning and also clubbed a two-run shot in the fourth, giving him a team-leading 17 homeruns on the season. The Yankees added five more runs in the fourth inning with the combination of some timely hits, and Padres bad fielding.
With the win, the Yankees have won 5 straight, and moved themselves 5 games over .500 at 38-33. Darrell Rasner will take the mound on Wednesday to go for their 6th straight win.
