Monday night at the Stadium, the Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox, 4-2. Wilson Betemit hit a tiebreaking pinch-hit RBI double in the seventh inning, leading the Yankees to their third straight victory. Alfredo Aceves pitched another solid outing for the Yankees.
Alfredo Aceves scattered five hits and a walk over six innings, giving up only 2 earned runs. Aceves struck out three, producing a second straight quality start in only his second career Major League start. He threw 60 of his 87 pitches for strikes. Coke picked up the win, and Mariano Rivera picked up the save, his 36th of the season, and he passed Lee Smith on the All time saves list.
Xavier Nady gave the Yankees an early 2-0 lead, homering in the second inning to drive in Jason Giambi. With the game tied at 2-2, the Yankees finally took the lead in the seventh, when Betemit laced a Horacio Ramirez offering nearly over the left-center field wall for a double. Betemit later scored on Johnny Damon’s single.
Robinson Cano sat the bench to start the game, due to him not “hustling” for a ground ball in yesterdays game.
