On Saturday morning, the Yankees completed a trade, which most experts consider a “steal” for the Yankees. Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte were acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for four players — outfield prospect Jose Tabata and right-handed pitchers Ross Ohlendorf, Jeff Karstens and Dan McCutchen.
Xavier Nady is an outfielder, which will platoon in left field with Johnny Damon. Nady was batting .330 with 13HR for the Pirates this year, and gives the Yankees some much needed help from the right side.
Damaso Marte is a set up man, who is alefty, and had a 3.47 ERa and 5 saves for Pittsburgh. Marte will be th eonly lefty coming out of the Yankees pen, which will help in matchups.
The Yankees optioned outfielder Brett Gardner to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and designated right-handed reliever LaTroy Hawkins for assignment.
