GAME 1
YANKEES 4
RANGERS 3

In Game 1 of the double header, Thursday afternoon, the Yankees defeated the Rangers 4-3. With a strong pitching outing from Andy Pettitte, and some clutch hitting from Derek Jeter and Hideki Matsui, the Yanks took Game 1 of the day.

Yankees starter Andy Pettitte gave up two runs and five hits in six efficient innings. He walked three batters and struck out five in a 107-pitch outing that appeared to be good enough for his second victory of the season, but as usual, Luis Vizcaino, entered with a 3-2 lead but could not hold it.

Derek Jeter led off the eighth inning with a single and scored on a double by Hideki Matsui to help the Yankees take back the lead 4-3. Mariano Rivera came in for the 9th, and locked down the save.
Derek Jeter extended his hit streak to 19 games.

GAME 2
YANKEES 5
RANGERS 2

In Game 2 of the double header, the Yankees fiished off their sweep of the Rangers with a 5-2 victory. Fresh off the disabled list and enduring an extra 40-minute delay because of the Texas rain, starter Mike Mussina allowed one run on four hits in five innings. Mussina threw only 64 pitches, but 49 of them were strikes.

Derek Jeter extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a single in the top of the sixth inning. His single to right field as part of a two-run seventh extended the Yankees lead to 4-1. Doug Mienkiewicz homered earlier in the game, for his 3rd homer of the season.

Yankees will head home to start a 4 game series against the Seattle Mariners. Probable starters: Kei Igawa (2-1) vs Cha Seung Baek (0-0).
