YANKEES 1
MARINERS 7

Monday afternoon, the Yankees seemed to take Labor Day off with the rest of the work world. The Seattle Mariners took game 1 of a crucial series, 7-1. Roger Clemens was lifted due to right elbow discomfort, but was laready getting shelled.

Roger Clemens was done after four innings against Seattle, allowing five runs in a 62-pitch effort. With Clemens done, the Yankees turned to Mike Mussina, who didn’t fare much better, surrendering seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, and 2 runs.

Derek Jeter singled, stole second and scored on Alex Rodriguez’s bloop single to shallow left field. THATS ALL!! I guess Joe Torre told the rest of the team to take the day off…especially since Joe has taken most the season off, falling asleep in the dugout.

The Yankees are now only 1 game ahead of Seattle for the Wild Card, and they have been sleep walking since the Boston series. Yankees better wake up..NOW!!

GAME NOTES:
CLEMENS: 4IP, 8H, 5ER
JETER: 1-3
AROD-2-4, RBI
POSADA: 2-4
