YANKEES 13
PIRATES 6
Sunday Afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees completed their 3 game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates, 13-6. The victory was the 6th win a row for the Yankees, who have pulled within one game of the .500 mark, and only 9.5 games behind Boston.
Tyler Clippard was not effective for the Yankees today, only lasting 3 2/3 innings, giving up 6 runs on 6 hits. However, the bullpen combination of Sean Henn, Vizcaino, Proctor and Myers came in relief to do the job, pitching 5 1/3 inning and giving up no runs.
Offensively, the Yankee bats were on fire once again. The Bombers hammered out 13 runs on 14 hits. The main stories today were Bobby Abreu’s 4 for 4 day, and Alex Rodriguez’s 2 homeruns. Abreu has finally found his stroke as of late, and today he went 4 for 4, with 2 singles, a double, a triple, and 3 RBI (just missing the cycle). Alex Rodriguez chipped in with 2 homeruns, and 5 RBI. Hideki Matsui also contributed with 2-4, 2 RBI.
The Yankees will now start a series on Tuesday at the Stadium, against the Arizona Diamondbacks, hoping to continue the hot streak.
GAME NOTES:
ABREU: 4-4, 3 RBI
A-ROD: 2-3, 2 HR, 5 RBI
MATSUI: 2-4, 2 RBI
