YANKEES 8
ORIOLES 7
Sunday afternoon at Camden Yards, the Yankees completed a much needed sweep of the Baltimore Orioles, 8-7. In a game which saw the Yankees blow a 7-2 lead, Robinson Cano came up with a huge homerun to break a 7-7 ties in the 7th inning, and give the Yankees the lead for good, 8-7.
Pitching was ugly, as Darrell Rasner threw 97 pitches in just 3 1/3 innings, giving up five runs, three of them earned, on 8 hits. Edwar Ramirez came into the game and served up a two-run homer to Brian Roberts in the fifth, allowing Baltimore to tie the game at 7-7. Veras, Marte, and Rivera held the Orioles off the board for the rest of the game.
Offensively, the Yankees scored seven runs through the first four innings.
Robinson Cano had 4 hits, 2 RBI, and the game winning homerun. Johhny Damon also had a homerun, and 3 RBI to help the Yankees. Damon’s homer came in the 2nd inning, to give the Yankees their first lead of the game. Xavier Nady stayed hot, adding a 2-4 game with 2 RBI’s.
The sweep was a MUST for the Yankees, and now sets up for a more important MUST sweep series against the Boston Red Sox at the Stadium. The series starts on Tuesday night.
