YANKEES 7
D’BACKS 1

Thursday Afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees completed a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 7-1 win. The victory was the 9th straight for the Yankees, and coupled with another Red Sox loss, they pull within 7.5 games of Boston, and just 3.5 from the Wild Card spot.

Andy Pettitte (4-4) pitched yet another solid outing for the Yankees, going 8 innings, limiting the D'Backs to just one run and four hits. Pettitte walked one and struck out four in the effort. "When you're playing like this, you just want to keep it going," Pettitte said. "That's all there is to it. It's fun right now to come to the ballpark and do this."

Offensively, the Bombers bats still stayed hot!! Alex Rodriguez and Hideki Matsui combined for half of the Yankees' 12 hits and five RBIs, with Matsui driving in three and Rodriguez drove in two. Josh Phelps also had an RBI single in the game, and Derek Jeter went 2 for 3.

The Yankees sweep of the D'Backs marked the 9th straight victory for the Yankees, and puts them two games over .500 (33-31). The Yankees, who were out as far as 14.5 games back of Boston before the win streak, has cut the lead all the way down to 7.5 games, and just 3.5 games behind the Wild Card leading Detroit Tigers.
The Yankees will now take on the Mets in another edition of the Subway Series this weekend. Roger Clemens will face Oliver Perez on Friday Night in Game 1.

GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 8 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 SO
A-ROD: 3-4, 2 RBI
MATSUI: 3-4, 3 RBI
JETER: 2-3
