Steinbrenner told the New York Daily News in Thursday’s editions that the Yankees will work on a final decision regarding their potential trade for the two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, perhaps drawing the months-old process to conclusion.
“I think the Twins realize our offer is the best one,” Steinbrenner told the newspaper. “I feel confident they’re not going to trade him before checking with us one last time, and I think they think we’ve already made the best offer.”
What the Twins and Johan Santana have to realize, is that the Yankees may be the only team that will give him the contract extension that he is looking for.
It looks as if the Yankees will not budge on giving up all 3 players initially talked about (Hughes, Cabrera, and Kennedy) … but I would expect to see 2 of them go. It’s a tough decision because you do not want to lose a young arm like Phil Hughes, but on the other hand, Santana is a proven Ace.
What would you Yankee fans like to see?? Hughes stay… or Santana here?
