The New York Yankees have added slugger Richie Sexson for the remainder of the season, according to multiple reports. Sexson was released by the Seattle Mariners on July 10 and cleared waivers, making him a free agent.

Richie Sexson is a first baseman who was batting .218 with 11 home runs and 30 RBIs in 74 games for the Mariners. While the average looks pathetic, Sexson actually batted .344 with five home runs in 61 at-bats against lefties.

Basically, the reason for this move, is that Hideki Matsui’s injury has taken a turn for the worse, and he is expected to miss the remainder of the season. While Richie Sexson is basicallly useless against right handed pitching, he will most likely be used to replace Giambi when a Left handed pitcher is on the mound for the opposition.

The Yankees will mose likely put Sexson right to work, as they face a left hander against Oakland on Friday night.
