YANKEES 0
TWINS 4
Monday night in Minnesota, the Yankees were shutout by the Twins, 4-0. Joe Girardi spoke before the game, saying with urgency, that the team needs to start winning….so what does he do??? He leaves out Damon and Giambi from the lineup, against a pitcher that struggles against lefties. the result…. a 4-0 shut out.
Sidney Ponson pitched a decent game, throwing 107 pitches after 7 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out two. The score was actually 3-0, until Ponson gave up an infield single on his final pitch of the night.
The problem tonight…was the same as it has been of late… STRANDING RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION!!! The Yankees had bases loaded with none out in the 2nd inning, and Pudge Rodriguez popped up, and was followed by a Melky Cabrera double play ball.
The loss sent the Yankees to their longest road losing streak of the season at four games. Joe Girardi’s questionable decisions as of late or really becoming huge. Girardi sat out the league leading hitter Johnny Damon, in a what Girardi considered a must win game.
The Yanks will try to stop their 4 game slide on Tuesday night when they send Mike Mussina to the mound.
