Wednesday Night in Baltimore, the Yankees avoided the sweep at the hands of the Orioles with a 4-2 victory. Andy Pettitte pitched a good game for the Yanks, and Jason Giambi hit yet another shot on to Eutaw Street to lead the Yankees on their way to victory.
Andy Pettitte (5-5) gave the Yankees 6 2/3 innings and 96 pitches, and only yielded a 2 run homer to Melvin Mora. Pettitte gave up 8 hits, and struck out 3 before giving the game to Joba Chamberlain. Chamberlain came in to relief, and pitched 1.1 innings, and struck out 3, and then Mariano Rivera finished the O’s off in the 9th inning.
Jason Giambi hit another bomb onto Eutaw Street in the 4th inning to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. The Yankees regained the lead in the fifth, as Melky Cabrera tagged up and scored on a Derek Jeter sacrifice fly. The Yankees tacked on a fourth run in the eighth when Jamie Walker could not cover on Damon’s ground ball to first base, scoring Matsui.
The Yankees will have a day off on Thursday, and then will head into Minnesota for a 4 game series.
