Saturday afternoon in Fenway, the Yankees won their 8th straight game, as they took another from Boston, 10-3. Andy Pettitte shut down the Red Sox in 6 innings of work, and Robinson Cano and the Yankees offense pounded Red Sox pitching for 10 runs.
Andy Pettitte over came an early A-Rod error which led to 2 unearned runs, and only gave up 1 other run the rest of the way. Pettitte scattered five hits, walking three and striking out seven to defeat the Red Sox. New addition to the Yankees, Demaso Marte came out of the bullpen in the seventh inning and struck out Ortiz, the only batter he faced, with 2 runners on. Robertson closed the game out with a scoreless 9th inning.
With the Yankees trailing 2-1, Robinson Cano hit a solo shot to center, to tie the game at 2-2 in the 4th inning. After tying the game, Melky Cabrera bunt singled, stole second, and then was driven home by Johnny Damon to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Cano is now riding an eight-game hitting streak and has posted multiple hits in seven of eight games since the break.
The Yankees borke the game open in the 6th inning with 4 runs, as Derek Jeter had an RBI single, an RBI double to Bobby Abreu, and Alex Rodriguez drove in the final run facing Masterson with a single to left.
In the 8th inning with the bases loaded, Robinson Cano blasted a double off of the green monster, to give the Yankees the 10-3 lead, which was the final score.
The Yankees will go for the sweep on Sunday night, as they send Sidney Ponson to the mound to face Lester. The Yankees are now onl1 game behind Boston, with a chance to pull even.
