YANKEES 2
DEVILRAYS 8
Sunday Afternoon, the Yankees fell to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 8-2. After coming off a sweep of the Red Sox, the Yankees did what they have done all season…. lose a series to a horrible team. Andy Petitte did not pitch well, and the offense couldn’t score off of a horrbile pitcher that they should have lit up.
Pettitte suffered his first defeat since July 27, giving up 5 runs on 11 hits. Pettitte (12-8) had won his last six starts and 12 consecutive decisions against Tampa Bay. He lasted 6 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out seven.
Offensively, the Yankees did nothing against Jason Hammel. Melky Cabrera hit an RBI single to score andy Philips in the 5th inning, and Bobby Abreu would hit an RBI triple in the 7th, but thats all the Yanks would score.
The Yankees will start a HUGE series against the slumping Seattle MAriners who have lost 9 in a row, but are only 2 games behind the Yankees for the Wild Card spot. Roger Clemens will face Felix Hernandez.
GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 6.1IP, 11H, 5ER, 7SO
ABREU: 2-5, RBI
CABRERA: 2-4, RBI
