YANKEES 6
TIGERS 9
Friday Night/Sat Morning in Detroit, the Yankees lost 9-6 to the Tigers in extra innings. After a 4 hour rain delay, and 11 innning of baseball until 3:45am, Carlos Guillen’s three-run homer off reliever Sean Henn gave the Tigers the victory. Why Joe Torre was dumb enough to bring Henn in to blow yet another game…. we have no clue. Oh wait…yes we do.. he’s Senile!!
Roger Clemens walked three and struck out three over five innings, giving up 6 runs. After the Yankee offense tied it up, the bullpen did a great job, until Henn gave up the 3 run homer. Edwar Ramirez had pitched a scoreless sixth and Joba Chamberlain retired the Tigers in order in the seventh before Kyle Farnsworth followed suit in the eighth. Luis Vizcaino allowed two baserunners in the ninth but got Casey to fly out, sending the game to extra innings. Mariano Rivera then got out of a bases loaded jam.
Alex Rodriguez had a 2 run homerun in the 3rd inning, and New York scored three times in the fifth to tie the game, with Posada drilling a two-run double and Hideki Matsui greeting reliever Tim Byrdak with an RBI single.
With the loss, the Yankees dropped 6 1/2 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East, while moving 3 games behind Seattle for the AL Wild Card. Saturday Night is a must win for the yankees, pitting Chie-Ming wang against Jeremy Bonderman.
