YANKEES 11
OAKLAND 5
Sunday Afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees fell to the Oakland A’s, 11-5. The Yankees lost yet another series, and their record settled at 37-41. The team hasn’t won a series since beating the Mets on June 17.
Andy Pettitte only lasted 1 2/3 innings, giving up 7 earned runs, on 9 hits. This was very uncharacteristic of Pettitte, who has been one of the most consistant Yankee pitchers this season, giving them many quality starts.
Offensively, the Yankees chipped away at the lead, off of the best pitcher in the AL, Dan Haren. Bobby Abreu and Andy Phillips had two RBIs apiece, and Derek Jeter plated another by the sixth to cut the deficit to 8-5, but the A’s would then tack on some more runs off of Yankees bullpen.
The Yankees will start a 4 game series with the Minnesota Twins tonight at the Stadium. Roger Clemens will face Boof Bonser.
GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 1.2 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, 1 SO
JETER: 2-4, RBI
PHILIPS: 3-4, 2 RBI
