YANKEES 4
TIGERS 5
Sunday Afternoon in Dtroit, the Yankees lost to the Tigers 5-4. Phil Hughes gave up 3 homeruns, and the Yankees fell short in their comback attempt.
You can look at the Yankee postgame show, Yankees.com, and listen to Michael Kay try to say that Phil Hughes did not pitch a bad game….but reality is, he did. I like Phil Hughes, and think he will be a good pitcher, but the past two games he has gotten bombed, and the Yankee media tries to sugarcoat it, and claim he did not pitch bad. Hughes finished with six strikeouts and a walk, but surrendered five runs on four hits, including 3 homeruns. THATS BAD!!
Jason Giambi hit a homerun, to continue his power surge since he has returned from the DL. The Yankees trailed 5-1, but Robinson Cano hit a 3 run homer to cut the lead to 5-4. Unfortunately, the Yankees would not score again.
With the loss, the Yankees dropped to 7 games back of Boston, and basically took the steam out of the upcoming series against the Red Sox. Monday night, the Yankees will try to take the last game of the set, when they pit Mike Mussina against Justin Verlander.
GAME NOTES:
HUGHES: 6IP, 5ER, 6SO
GIAMBI: 2-4, HR
CANO: 1-4, HR, 3RBI
