YANKEES 4
METS 7

Saturday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees fell to the Mets, 7-4. Andy Pettitte had a rough 4th inning, giving up 3 runs in the inning, and the bullpen couldn’t hold it together for the Yanks.

Andy Pettitte, although having a troubled 4th inning in which he gave up 3 runs, he actually settled down and gave the Yankees 6 innings, allowing only those 3 runs. Pettitte’s line looked solid, as he scattered seven hits while walking two and striking out a season-high seven in a 116-pitch outing. The Mets extended the lead in the seventh with three runs on two homers off Kyle Farnsworth (GEE SURPRISE!!!).

Derek Jeter — batting .381 with 11 homers lifetime against the Mets entering play — reached Santana for a two-run homer in the first inning. Jason Giambi added a solo home run leading off the seventh, and Bobby Abreu added a homer in the 8th off of Santana..but the Yanks fell short in the end.

The Yanks actually scored enough off of Santana..but the problem came when Farnsworth gave the game away with 3 runs on 2 homers.

Game 2 in the Bronx will be Sunday, as Chien-Ming Wang gets the ball.

GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 6IP, 7H, 3ER, 7SO
JETER: 3-4, HR, RBI
ABREU: 2-4, HR, RBI
GIAMBI: 2-4, HR, RBI
