Friday night in Baltimore, the Yankees came from behind to defeat the Orioles, 9-4. Even though the Yankees hit 4 homeruns, and look like they clobbered the Orioles, it wasn’t that easy. The Yanks had to come from behind, but exploded in the 8th and 9th innings.
Mike Mussina finished with a no-decision and six innings of four-run, nine-hit baseball. Mussina walked no batters, and struck out three. when Mussina left the game after the 6th inning, the Yanks were trailing 4-3. Jose Veras pitched a scoreless 7th inning, and picked up the win.
Offensively, the highlight were: two different sets of back-to-back home runs, a five-hit night for Bobby Abreu, and Derek Jeter collected his 2,500 career hit. Robinson Cano and Jose Molina hit the first set of back to back homers, which tied the game at 3-3.
In the 8th inning, Yankees tied the game, when Bobby Abreu scored on a wild pitch by rookie Kam Mickolio, and then the game winner was scored in the same at-bat on an RBI-single to right by Xavier Nady.
In the 9th inning, Cody Ransom and Xavier Nady hit another pair of back to back homers, to add the icing on the cake.
Saturday night, Carl Pavano… Yes… Carl Pavano will make the start for the Yankees, if he doesnt get hurt before then.
