After all of the major Yankee Free Agent moves to strenthen their pitching staff, the Yankees picked up a major offensive piece in Mark Texiera. The Yankees and Teixeira reached a preliminary agreement Tuesday on an eight-year, $180 million contract that will make the Bronx his home.
There had been rumors of the Boston Red Sox being very close to signing Texiera, and the Yanks swooped in and grabbed him. The Yanks played this one very quietly and calculated, as they did not show any interest in Texiera during the past few months. After watching other teams go into a bidding war, the Yankees kept quiet, and the at the right time, they jumped in and grabbed him.
Teixeira’s agreement includes a $5 million signing bonus and a full-no trade provision. The deal also gives the Yankees control of the four biggest contracts in the game, joining pacts signed by Alex Rodriguez (10 years, $275 million), Derek Jeter (10 years, $189 million) and Sabathia (seven years, $161 million).
Not only are his stats inpressive, but he is also a HUGE Don Mattingly fan, which is why he wears #23. Of course, he will have to change his number now, but maybe he will make a new number a historical one in pinstripes.
