YANKEES 8
TWINS 2

Tuesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees won their 5th straight game, by defeating the Minnesota Twins, 8-2. Boby Abreu went deep to give the Yankees the lead, andRobinson Cano stayed smoking with another multi-hit game. Darrell Rasner provided the pitching, by pitching 5 2/3 strong innings, and the bullpen shut down the rest of the innings.

Darrell Rasner blanked Minnesota over the first five innings before allowing two runs in the sixth, after a Jason Giambi error. Rasner was charged with two runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out two.
Dave Robertson (2-0), who threw one pitch to retire the final out of the sixth inning picked up the win.

Jose Veras set down the Twins with a scoreless seventh inning before Kyle Farnsworth handled the eighth without allowing a hit once again — his ninth straight inning with no hits allowed.

Offensively, Robinson Cano continued his second-half hot hitting to put the Yankees on the board in the second inning, singling to right-center and driving in Alex Rodriguez. With the Yankees trailing by a run in the sixth inning (2-1), Bobby Abreu blasted his 11th home run, a two-run shot to right field to put the Yankees back on top, 3-2. Robinson Cano then added a single, driving in another run, and the Yankees took off from there.
Derek Jeter padded the Yankee lead in a four-run seventh inning, drilling a two-run double.

The victory moved the Yankees within 3 1/2 games of the first-place Rays in the American League East. The Yanks will send Mike Mussina to the mound to try to secure the Yankees 2nd straight series sweep.
