YANKEES 4
A’S 8
Wednesday night in Oakland, the Yankees fell to the Oakland Athletics, 8-4. Darrell Rasner made his first start, only 3 hours from his home town of Carson City, Nevada, with a bunch of family and friends on hand, but it was not a memorable one.
Rasner was roughed up for seven runs — six earned — and only made it through 3.2 inings. Rasner gave up 8 hits, while striking out 4. This was the first “bad” game that Rasner has pitched for the Yankees, and evemn though it’s his 4th straight loss… the previous 3 losses, the Yankee did not score runs for him. On a positive note, Ohlendorf, Hawkins, Farnsworth, and Ramirez held the A’s to just 1 run the rest of the way.
Jason Giambi hit his team-leading 15th home run of the season, a solo shot with one out in the second inning. After the homerun, the Yanks were shut down until the 9th inning, when they put a little rally together scoring 3 runs.
The Yankees are now back to .500 AGAIN. It is the 23rd time the Yankees have been exactly .500 this season, equaling a Major League record set by the 1959 Chicago Cubs through 66 games.
Thursday night, Andy Pettitte will take the mound in Oakland.
GAME NOTES:
RASNER: 3.2IP, 9H, 6ER, 4SO
GIAMBI: 2-4, HR, 2RBI
