Thursday night at the Stadium, the Yankees fell to the Los Angeles Angels, 12-6. Andy Pettitte got roughed up, and Chris Britton did even worse. The Yankees offense scored too little, too late.
Andy Pettitte pitched 5 1/3 innings, and was charged with nine runs on 11 hits. Pettitte walked three and struck out two. Pettitte gave up a 3 run homer to Torii Hunter, and then another 3 run homer to Juan Rivera and the other runs were actually a Vladmir Guerero 3 run homerun off of Chris Britton, in which 2 runs were charged to Pettitte.
Offensively, Bobby Abreu and Xavier Nady homered, and then the Yankees scored 3 runs in the 9th inning to make it look a bit closer than it really was. Ivan Rodriguez went 1-for-3 and allowed three stolen bases in his pinstripes debut.
The Yankees will send Sidney Ponson to the mound on Friday night in hopes to take game 2 from the Angels
