YANKEES 1
ANGELS 3

Saturday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees dropped thier second in a row to the Angels, 3-1. Chien-Ming Wang gave up 3 early runs in the first inning, and the Yankee bats couldn’t come alive, leading to yet another loss at the hands of the Angels.

Wang (3-4) gave up 3 runs in the first inning, and then battled his way through the next seven innings to give the Yankees a good outing. Wang allowed 6 hits, mixed with four walks — but held the Angels scoreless after the first. Wang pitched 8 innings in total, before givcing way to Mariano Rivera.

The only Yankee offense came in the 4th inning, when Doug Mientkiewicz’s opposite-field hit with two outs, drove in Alex Rodriguez. Aside from that, the Yankees did nothing..but leave 9 men on base. Derek Jeters hitting streak came to an end, and in the last inning, Bobby Abreu was called out on strikes looking, on a pitch that was about a foot outside.
Although the Yankees did not score any runs, the homeplate umpire did not help. The umpire behind the plate was calling a VERY inconsistent game, and seemed to be giving Angels pitching a HUGE strike zone.

The Yankees will wrap up their series with the Angels tomorrow afternoon, and try to salvage a game. Mike Mussina vs John Lackey.

GAME NOTES:
WANG: 8 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 6 K
MIENTKIEWICZ: 1-3, RBI
JETER: 0-4
