YANKEES 7
GIANTS 3
Friday Night in San Francisco, the Yankees defeated the Giants 7-3, to snap their 3 game losing streak. Kei Igawa made his first start for the Yankees since returning from the minor leagues, and looked ver impressive for the first 4 innings, but got a little shaky in the 5th.
Kei Igawa took the mound against the San Francisco Giants, and looked good to start. Through the first 4 inings, Igawa had given up 0 runs, and struck out 5. However, in the 5th inning, he ran into some trouble. Igawa gave up a few hits ina row, and then loaded the bases, and walked Barry Bonds to bring in a run. The Yankees still had a 6-3 lead at this point, when Igawa was pulled from the game for reliever Luis Vizcaino. Vizcaino gave up a deep drive to left, and a great jumping the wall catch by Hideki Matsui saved the game from possibly being tied.
Offensively, the Yankee bats finally came alive, after being shutdown in Colorado. Melky Cabrera stroked a two-run single to put the Yankees up 3-0 in the second inning. In the fifth. Bobby Abreu doubled off the warning track in right-center field to score Derek Jeter, and Rodriguez lined a single to center knocking in Yankees’ fifth run. Alex Rodriguez had a huge game, going 4-for-4 with 2 RBI.
