YANKEES 12
TWINS 3

Monday night at the Stadium, the Yankees continue their 2nd half win streak, as they defeated the Minnesota Twins, 12-4. Sidney Ponson picked up the win, and Robinson Cano continued his hot hitting, belting a homerun.

Sidney Ponson allowed nine hits, two walks and three runs in 5 2/3 innings. Although it wasn’t his best performance, he gave the Yankees enough to let the offense take over. Ramirez and Robertson came in relief and gave up no runs, and then Latroy Hawkins gave up 1 run in 2 innings work.

The Yankees jumpe dout to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as Alex Rodriguez hit his 21st homerun. In the 2nd inning, Melky Cabrera, Jose Molina and Brett Gardner all singled in succession with two outs, and all of them scored later that inning. Derek Jeter knocked in a run. Bobby Abreu knocked in another. And by the time the second inning was complete, the Yankees had scored four times in all to take a 6-2 lead.

The Yankees scored another 2 runs in the 3rd inning, as Robinson Cano belted an upper deck homerun. Johnny Damon came back off the DL to contribute with a double, and Derek Jeter hit a homerun in the 6th to give the Yankees a 11-3. The Yankees totalled 12 runs on 16 hits.

The Yankees will go for their 5th straight win since the All-Star Break as they send Darrell Rasner to the mound.
