YANKEES 21
DEVIL RAYS 4

If you looked at the boxscore the past 2 days, you would think it was a mistake. The Yankee had another offensive explosion Sunday afternoon, defeating the Devil Rays 21-4, and taking 3 out of 4 from Tampa Bay.
The 21 runs comes one day after scoring 17.

Yankees starter Andy Pettitte allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings for his sixth win of the season. The left-hander struck out a season-high eight batters and walked three. Andy Pettitte pitched well, considering having to wait 35 minutes to pitch after the Yankees bottom of the fourth.

Fourteen Yankees came up to bat in the bottom of the fourth, which took 29 minutes to complete. It was the first time the team has scored 10 runs in an inning since Sept. 4, 2006, against Kansas City. Rookie Shelley Duncan contributed to the 25-hit scoring barrage with two home runs. Robinson Cano, Bobby Abreu, Hideki Matsui, and Alex Rodriguez also homered for the Yankees. A-Rod’s home run was his 34th of the season, and his 498th of his career. Bobby Abreu, Jorge Posada and Robinson Cano each recorded three hits, and Hideki Matsui homered for the third time in as many games. Matsui set a regular season career high with five hits.

The Yankees took the series 3-out-of-4, and continue their excellent second half play. They will now head to Kansas City on MOnday, when Roger Clemens will face Odalis Perez.
