YANKEES 9
ROYALS 2
Monday Night in Kansas City, the Yankees kept their winning ways going, defeating the Royals, 9-2. The offense again came up big with 9 runs on 13 hits, and Roger Clemens held the Royals to just 2 runs.
Roger Clemens (3-4) picked up his 351st win of his career, giving up only 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking none and striking out three. The Rocket went 7 innings, in a 94 pitch effort. In relief, Luis Vizcaino once again pitched a scoreless 8th inning, which was his 13th consecutive scoreless inning. Now, if only Joe Torre would use his brain, and put Vizcaino in the permanent set-up role, the Yanks would be fine.
Offensivley, the Yankee bats continued to roll. After scoring 7, 17, and 21 runs the past 3 games, they continued strong with 9 runs. Hideki Matsui drove in 2 runs in the first inning with a single, which has seemed to be the trend of late. Johnny Damon dropped a two-run double down the left-field line off Perez in the second to stake New York to a 4-0 lead. Rodriguez logged his 100th RBI in 99 games with a single in the ninth off reliever Ryan Braun, and Posada tacked on a two-run single later in the inning. The Yankees blew open the 4-2 lead, by scoring 5 runs in the 9th inning. Joege Posada hit a triple, driving in 3 runs for the Yankees. Robinson Cano also remianed hot, going 2 for 4, and inching closer to the .300 mark.
Yanks look to take game 2 in Kansas City on Tueday, when Chien-Ming Wang take son Scott Elarton.
