YANKEES 6
RED SOX 2
Monday night at the Staidum, the Yankees defeated the Red Sox 6-2, in a much needed win. Chien-Ming Wang held the Red Sox offense down, as the Yankees offense, including some struggling players, finally broke through.
Wang held the Boston’s bats to two runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, striking out five. He actually took a different approach tonight to pitching against the Sox lineup. Instead of using his great sinker, Wang decided to take a different approach by throwing mostly off-speed pitches. Wang scattered seven hits, walking three and striking out five, before finally running out of steam in the seventh.
Alex Rodriguez extended his Major League home run lead in the first inning, connecting for a two-run shot to deep left, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead. Giambi led off the second inning with a solo home run to the upper deck in right field, giving the Yanks a 3-0 lead. Derek Jeter added an RBI double off Wakefield, to up the Yankees lead to 4-0. Cano opened the floodgates in the fifth inning with a two-run triple off Wakefield, and the Yankees would take a 6-0 lead, and finally have a good output against Tim Wakefield.
This win could be a HUGE one for the Yankees. The Yankees basically know that they need to sweep the Red sox in this 3 game set, and hopefully momentum will carry them to a huge comeback in the standings to turn the season around. Right now, the Yankees are 9.5 game behind Boston. Yankees will go for their 3rd straight win on Tuesday night against Boston, pitting: Mike Mussina (2-2) vs Julian Tavarez (2-4).
