YANKEES 4
REDS 1
Sunday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees avoided being swept by the Reds, with a 4-1 victory. Andy Pettitte pitched a great game, and then an hour rain delay ended his day after the 6th inning. Jason Giambi provided the offensive spark for the Yankees, as he was a part of both run scoring innings.
Andy Pettitte (8-5) worked six innings, giving up just four hits, 0 runs and striking out four. Pettitte continued to lark sharp on Sunday, but had to leave the game after the 6th inning, due to a 1 hour rain delay.
The bullpen did a good job except for Kyle Farnsworth, who gave up a homerun (GEE SURPRISE). Farnsworth left the game with a hurt finger, as he tried to stop a line drive up the middle with his bare hand. Hopefully this means we will not have to deal with him anymore.
Jason Giambi sparked the lineup when he connected on a line drive to center field to kick off the fifth inning. He advanced on Jorge Posada’s double, and second baseman Robinson Cano sent Giambi home with a sacrifice fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Giambi would also come up big in the sixth inning, when he hit a 2 run double off the left-center field wall.
Giambi went 3-3 on the day.
The Yankees will take a trip to Pittsburgh to continue inter-league play against the Pirates on Tuesday, after having Monday off.
GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 6IP, 4H, 0ER, 4SO
GIAMBI: 3-3, HR, 2 RBI
POSADA: 2-4, RBI
