YANKEES 8
METS 2
Sunday night at the Stadium, the Yankees defeated the Mets, 8-2. The victory for the Yankees was their 11th in 12 games, and they took 2 of 3 from the Mets. The Yanks got another dominent performance from Chien-Ming Wang.
Chien-Ming Wang once agian looked very sharp, striking out a career-high 10 batters tonight. Wang (7-4) who won his fourth consecutive start with 8 2/3 strong innings, allowed two runs on six hits, walking one, and setting a new career high in strikeouts. Wang would have had a complete game, but unfortunately, for no reason at all, Joe Torre decided to pull him from the game (Mondays upcoming rant will cover this).
Offensively, the Bombers came through early and often. In the first inning, A-Rod hit a 2-run homerun, which was his league leading 27 HR. Rodriguez’s blast came with two outs in the first inning, as the slugger unloaded on a 2-0 pitch and sent it over the left-field wall. Miguel Cairo added an RBI double, and Damon had a run-scoring hit in the second.
In the 5th, Johnny Damon hit a homerun off of El Duque, and then the hot hitting Jorge Posada blasted a 2 run homerun in the 8th.
The Yankees took 2 of 3 against their cross town rivals, and showed the change in power fo the New York baseball season. Where are all the METS fans talking now?? Mets continue to slide out of control, the Yankees are playing the best baseball in the league right now, and have themselves right there in the playoff hunt. The Yankees look to continue their hot play facing some more upcoming weak NL opponents.
The Yanks will face the Colorado Rockeis for a 3 game set in Colorado, starting on Tueday night in which Mike Mussina will face Josh Fogg.
