YANKEES 12
ANGELS 0

Sunday Afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees completely blew out the Angels, 12-0. The victory, gave the Yankees the series win over the Angles, who have given the Yankees problems in the past.

Chien-Ming Wang (9-4) pitched yet another strong game for the Yankees, going 6 1/3 inning, giving up NO runs and only 5 hits, with 3 stirke outs. It marked Wang’s second consecutive start without surrendering a run.

Offensively the Yankees pounded out 12 runs on 12 hits, using the long ball to score a majority of their runs. Alex Rodriguez, Hideki Matsui and Robinson Cano each hit a three-run home run. Rodriguez’s line-drive shot over the left-field fence in the fourth inning gave him sole possession of 22nd place on baseball’s all-time home runs list, pushing him past Fred McGriff and Yankees legend Lou Gehrig. It was Rodriguez’s Major League-leading 30th home run of the season, and league leading 86th RBI heading into the All-Star Break.

With the win, the Yankees raised their record to 42-43 heading into the All-Star break. After the break, the Yankees will start their second half of the season against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, putting Andy Pettitte out on the mound. The Yankees will need a HUGE winning streak to start the second half of the season, and play about .650 ball the rest of the way to make a playoff push.
