In game 2 of the double-header, the Yankees completely destroyed the Devil Rays 17-5. The Yankees pounded out 17 runs on 20 hits, including Alex Rodriguez' 33rd homerun, and Hideki Matsui's second homerun of the day.
Matt DeSalvo struggled in his appearance, giving up four runs on seven hits in only 4 2/3 innings work. Yankee pitching received some major help from the outfield, as Johnny Damon made 2 diving catches in left field, and Melky Cabrerea made a diving catch in center. Each catch just happned to rob Rays 3rd baseman, Akinori Iwamura. Luis Vizcaino (8-2) picked up the win, which his 8th of the season, and 2nd win of the day.
Offensively, it was a huge day for the "Bombers". Alex Rodriguez hit career homer No. 497 and was one of five Yankees to collect multiple RBIs. Bobby Abreu had three RBIs and Johnny Damon four for the Yankees, who drilled left-hander J.P. Howell for seven runs in five innings. Backup catcher Wil Nieves contributed a two-run double to the attack, and Melky Cabrera scored three runs. Matsui connected on a three-run homer as part of a five-run seventh.
The Yankees will finish their 4 game set with the Devil Rays on Sunday when Andy Pettitte faces James Shields.
