Andy Pettitte, Scott Proctor and Jorge Posada have been 3 Yankees to recently show some frustration with the way the Yanks have played in the 2007 season thus far. Thank god at least SOME of the players actually care.

Andy Pettitte had spoken out recently about the frustration of going out there and pitching, and not receiving any support, followed up by Jorge Posada recently saying that “some players do not care, and are not giving it their all”, and they seem to be “going through the motions”.

The latest show of frustration was a bizarre one. Following another bad outing by Scott Proctor, he decided to start a bonfire after the game in front of the Yankee dugout. Proctor trucked his belongings down the runway from the home clubhouse, dumped them in a barrell and lit them all on fire. It seemed to be a superstitious move as well, burning of the equipment that has failed him all year, and starting new with some new equipment.

It is actually good to see SOME sort of emotion from players, to see that they really care. Today in sports, it seems as if most players simply just do not care if they win or lose. Jorge Posada is correct in his thoughts.
Could you Yankee fans imagine the 1996-2000 teams having a season like this?? Paul O’Neil would have broken about 100 water coolers already, and players would be so angry, that they would all step up their game. These 2007 Yankees are soft. There are too many players who do not want to win, and don’t care if they win. Somebody needed to speak up, and kick their asses in gear.

It is also frustrating to be a Yankee fan this year. It is frustrating to see a team that supposedly on paper has the greatest lineup ever…yet they go out and score 1 run a game. It is frustrating to see Yankees with a one run lead, and see Joe Torre mismanage the pitching staff, and cost them games.

There is a difference between being a BAD team and losing all year …and ebing a Great team and losing all year. It is ok as a fan to watch a bad team lose…if they are giving it their all, but they just don’t have the talent to win. You do not expect them to win. However…it is very frustrating to watch a team with the most talented players in a sport, go out and lose, and embarrass themselves all season. There is absolutely no excuse for a team with this much talent, to be as BAD as they have been.
