Chien-Ming Wang left the game on Sunday in Houston, after running the bases and scoring a run. Wang started limping around 3rd base, and had be taken out of the game, and taken for X-rays. Wang was examined Monday in New York and has been diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain of the Lisfranc ligament of the right foot and a partial tear of the peroneal longus tendon of the right foot.
In English terms…Wang will be on crutches and wear a protective boot for at least six weeks, the Yankees said. Wang would not be walking freely until almost early August, and would require weeks of rehab duty to return his arm to pitching form, so basically we are looking at September at the earliest, IF everything goes well.
Wang’s next scheduled start was to come on Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds, and the Yankees have not announced who will make that start. Right-hander Dan Giese looks as if he may be the canidate, unless the Yankees decide to bring up Ian Kennedy or Kei Igawa again, which hasn’t worked the last 3 times they have tried them.
Also.. don’t be surprised if the Yankees start testing the trad emarket to find a starting pitcher. The earliest rumors are that pitcers such as C.C. Sebathia, A.J Burnett, and Erik Berdard may be targets.
