I’m sure EVERY Yankee fan on the face of the earth is hoping that Joe Torre wakes up at some point soon, and puts Luis Vizcaino in the 8th inning set up role. Any normal mamager in baseball would call this a “no-brainer”, but we are dealing with Joe “I fall in love with certainplayers” Torre.
Torre seems to fall in love and become obsessed with certainplayers in certain roles, no matter how bad they are, and he refuses to make changes. Kyle Farnsworth should not even be pitching in the Major Leagues, and Torre has him as his set up man. Farnsworth, however, is just the most recent of these Torre love affairs that have cost the Yankees games over the years. Heres a list of just a few memorable names that Joe has for some reason persistantly put in big spots, no matter how many times thay fail. Do we remember… Felix Heredia??
Do we remember… Tanyon Sturtz?? I don’t think there was one game all year that Felix Heredia did not give up a homerun, yet Joe HAD to put him in the 8th inning of close games.
Luis Vizcaino has has 18 consecutive innings without giving up a run, while on the contrary, Farnsworth has gone 18 consecutive apperances without retiring a side 1-2-3. If I see Farnsworth come into another big 8 inning spot this year, I am going to assume that Torre is throwing games and is on “the take” along with the NBA officials!

He’s been good, Ive just been reading, in 25 innings over 25 appearances through Monday, he’s had a 0.72 era and stranding 15 out of 17 inherited runners and quietly has 8 wins (second most on the Yanks). Hopefully he keeps it up!
