As Spring Training enters week #2, the Yankees pitchers have started thowing to the Yankee batters. Although it is pitching behind a screen, and just working out some pitches, batters seem to praise how Wang and Mussina have looked in the early going.

Joba Chamberlain has been working on an array of pitches, in the event that he may be starting at some point during the season. Joba primarily pitched fastballs 99% of the time last season, mixed in with a slider. Now he is working on a change-up and a few other pitches to complete his repretoir. “Whether I start or relieve, I’m going to need them all at some time or another,” Chamberlain said. “We can’t all be so gifted to throw a great cutter [like Mariano Rivera]. We’ve got to be able to do other things.”

As I mentioned in an early blog a few weeks back, Jonathan Albaladejo, who was aquired form the Nationals, may be a surprise “go to guy” in the bullpen along with Hawkins. The 25-year-old right-hander, pitched to a 1.88 ERA in 14 games for the Nationals. “I think I’m a contender for a spot in the bullpen,” Albaladejo said. “Hopefully, I get a chance, but I have no idea what’s going to happen.”
