YANKEES 6
RED SOX 7
Sunday night in Fenway, the Yankees dropped their 3rd straight to the Red Sox, 7-6. This loss, marked the first time that the Yankees have been swept in Fenway in 17 years (1990).
The Yanks jumped on Matsuzaka (Dice-K) early in the game, and had a 3-0 lead. However, Chase Wright had an inning to remember (in a negative way). The Red Sox would hit back-to back-to back-to back (4) consecutive homeruns, to give Boston a 4-3 lead. Wright, who allowed four runs and five hits (walking three and fanning three), became just the second pitcher to allow four consecutive homers, joining the Angels’ Paul Foytack, who served up four long balls to the Cleveland Indians on July 31, 1963.
The Yankees would overcome this inning, by taking the lead back 5-4, on a Derek Jeter homerun, and a DP ground ball to score a run. However, Proctor would give the lead right back, by giving up a 3 run homer to Mike Lowell. Even thought the Yankees once again touched up Boston’s starters, they would go on to lose 7-6.
GAME NOTES:
WRIGHT: Horrible game pitched, including giving up 4 consecutive homeruns. (3 IP, 5 H, 4 ER).
GIAMBI: 2-4, 3 RBI
JETER: 1-4, 1 RBI, HR
CANO: 2-4
