YANKEES 5
RAYS 2

Tuesday night, Andy Pettitte pitched in and out of trouble, and lead the Yanks to a 5-2 victory over the Rays. Pettitte logged seven innings, while Hideki Matsui homered and drove in two runs.

Andy Pettitte ran his Tropicana Field winning streak to seven games by pitching seven innings of three-run ball. Pettitte got in trouble quite a few times, but each time he pitched out of it, including a few double play balls.
Andy gave up 9 hits, and struck out 5, while pitching exactly 100 pitches.

Matsui hit his third homer of the season — all against the Rays — when he opened scoring against Edwin Jackson in the second. The Yankees added two more in the fourth as Matsui brought home Bobby Abreu with a groundout and Alex Rodriguez slid home safely on a wild pitch after doubling. The Yankees extended their lead to 5-2 with two more runs in the fifth. Johnny Damon walked, stole second and scored on a Derek Jeter RBI single, and Abreu followed with a single to center to bring home Jeter.

The Yankees will begin a 2 game series with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 7IP, 9H, 3ER, 5SO
JETER: 3-4, RBI
MATSUI: 2-5, HR, 2RBI
ABREU: 1-3, RBI
