YANKS 10
TWINS 1
Andy Pettitte (1-0) limited the Twins to just four hits in a six-inning, 96-pitch effort, walking one and striking out three, leading the Yanks to a 10-1 win in Minnesota this evening.
Pettitte looked sharp, and back to old form again, as he held the Twins lineup scoreless. Andy was making his second apperance in the past 3 days, as he also pitched an inning of relief on Sunday. It was nice to see two straight nights of quality starting pitching by the Yanks.
Offensively, the bombers pounded out 13 hits, and scored 10 runs. A-Rod became the first player in Yankees history to homer six times in the first seven games of a season, as he extended his Major League home run lead in the first inning, reaching Minnesota starter Boof Bonser for a two-run shot. Rodriguez has homered in four consecutive games, and his six home runs and 17 RBIs lead the Major Leagues. Johnny Damon added a three-run homer, his first of the season, while Melky Cabrera and Jason Giambi contributed run-scoring singles in support of Pettitte.
The Yankees will go for the series sweep of the Twins, tomorrow night in Minnesota, as Mike Mussina will take the mound.
