Friday Night at the Stadium after a long rain delay, Andy Pettitte shut down the potent offense of the Detroit Tigers. The Yanks put a stop to their 4 game losing streak with a 6-1 victory. Jaosn Giambi hit 2 homeruns, including a BOMB, half way up in the upperdeck.

Pettitte (10-7) logged his sixth victory since the All-Star break and won his fourth consecutive start, keeping up his standing as one of the game’s most reliable second-half pitchers. Pettitte limited the Tigers to five hits over eight innings of one-run ball and, with 104 pitches. Joba Chamberlain came in for a 1-2-3 9th inning, and looked impressive again.

Offensively, Jason Gimabi continues to crush the ball since his return from the DL. Giambi hit 2 homeruns, including an upperdeck blast.
Abreu and Rodriguez also had run-scoring hits for th eYanks, while first baseman Andy Phillips snapped out of a 3-for-16 skid by putting up a three-hit night, including a two-run double off Robertson.



In game 3 of the series, the Yankees will pit Roger Clemens vs Chad Durbin.
