March 30, 2008

Monday will mark Opening Day at Yankee Stadium. This will not be just any home opener….as it will be the FINAL home Opener at the current Yankee Stadium, and the first opening day without Joe Torre in 12 years.

The Yankees will open up the season with a great pitching matchup which will include Ching-Mien Wang vs Roy Halladay, as the Yanks take on the Toronto Blue Jays. The start will come on Wang’s 28th birthday, and he will be coming off a seaon in which he tied a career high in wins for the second consecutive season, going 19-7 with a 3.70 ERA in 30 starts and establishing a career high with 104 strikeouts.

“I’m very happy,” Wang said. “This is my first time on Opening Day. For me, it’s big. I’m very excited. It shows that the coaches trust me. I still have a lot to learn.”

In what will be a historical season at Yankee Stadium, which will include the Final Season in the current stadium, a new coaching regime with Joe Girardi, and the 2008 All-Star Game in the summer….. it is only right that a 27th Championship should cap off this memorable season!!

GOOD LUCK YANKS!!
