The Yankees’ Brian Bruney, Melky Cabrera and Xavier Nady joined a group of 111 Major League players who filed for salary arbitration on Thursday.
Salary arbitration figures are scheduled to be exchanged on Jan. 20, with hearings taking place from Feb. 1 through Feb. 21.
Xavier Nady, along with Nick Swisher have been the talk of trade rumors around MLB lately. The Yankees have a crowded outfield, and it seems less than likely that Nady, Siwsher, and Cabrera will all be on the opening day roster, beacuse the Yankees have plans for Brett Gardner to play some CF, along with Johhny Damon, and they still have Hideki Matsui in the outfield mix.
I would look to see Nady stay put, unless he is needed to complete a deal along with Swisher for another outfielder, such as Mike Cameron. The opening day lineup right now in the outfield, looks a sif it would be:
CF Damon
LF Matsui
RF Nady
