YANKEES 3
RANGERS 0
Thursday night in Arlington, the Yankees earned a split of the 4 game series by defeating the Texas Rangers, 3-0. Mike Mussina pitched yet another strong outing, shutting out the top hitting team in the league. Derek Jeter provided the offense, belting a homerun, which was all the Yanks would need.
Mike Mussina lasted seven innings, giving up 0 runs, and allowing eight hits and striking out six for his 15th win of the season. Mussina continues to hold this pitching staff together throughout all of the injuries this season, and remains the most consistant pitcher for the Yankees.
Brian Bruney, Demaso Marte, and Mariano Rivera combined to finish off the final two innings of the game.
The Yankees took the lead in the first inning, when Derek Jeter hit a solo homerun, to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Johnny Damon would then add an RBI single in the 5th inning, and then Derek Jeter ended off the scoring with another RBI single in the 9th inning.
Alex Rodriguez once again grounded into a double play with men in scoring position, to continue his horrid season with men in scoring position.
The Yankees will now start a series in Los Angeles against the Angels, and will send Ian Kennedy to the mound to take the place of Joba Chamberlain.
GAME NOTES:
MUSSINA: 7IP, 8H, 0ER, 6SO
JETER: 3-4, HR, 2RBI
