YANKEES 8
ASTROS 4
Saturday night in Houston, the Yankees took their second straight from the Astros, behind another quality start from Mike Mussina. Mussina won his 10th game of the season, as the Yankees defeated the Astros 8-4.
It was Mussina’s 260th career victory makes him the sixth pitcher in Major League history to record 10 or more wins in 17 consecutive seasons.
Mike Mussina (10-4) ran into trouble earlier, but gathered himself, and pitched a good game. Mussina gave up a 3 run homer to Carlos Lee in the 1st inning, but thats all that Mussina would yield. Mike Mussina’s final line read, 6 inning, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, while striking out 4 batters. Ross Ohlendorf, Kyle Farnsworth, and Mariano Rivera would close the game out.
In the second inning, the Yanks struck right back as A-Rod hit a solo shot to right, his 11th. Jason Giambi and Melky Cabrera followed with back-to-back doubles to bring home New York’s second run. In the third inning, the Yankees scored three runs, powered by Cabrera’s bases-loaded, four-pitch walk and Jose Molina’s two-run double. Robinson Cano would also add a pinch-hit RBI single later int he game to build on the Yanks lead.
The Yankees are now 3 games over .500, and will try to continue their win streak Sunday, and complete a sweep of the Astros when Chien-Ming Wang takes the mound.
