Saturday afternoon at the Stadium was Old-Timers Day, and the Yankees had a veteran on the mound in Mike Mussina. Mussina pitched yet another gem, holding the Angels to 2 hits, as the Yankees homered their way to a 8-2 victory.
Mike Mussina won for the third time in four starts, limiting the Angels to two runs (one earned) on two hits, while walking two and striking out five. The Angels scored 2 runs in the 1st inning, and then Mike Mussina shut down the Angels, and retired his final 16 batters he faced.
Offensively, while trailing 2-0 in the 2nd inning, Wilson Betemit hit a 2 run homerun to tie the game. In the 3rd inning, Bobby Abreu followed suit with a homerun of his own, to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead. To kepe the homeruns coming, Jose Molina connected on a homerun in the 5th inning, which was later followed in the 6th inning by a homerun by Alex Rodriguez.
The win was a must for the Yankees, as they will try to earn a split of the series on Sunday when they send Darrell Rasner to the mound.
