Thursday night at the Stadium, the Yankees won the series against the Chicago White Sox with a 9-2 victory. Mike Mussina picked up his 18th victory of the season, with another strong performance, to hope alive for possible 20 win season. Bobby Abreu added the offensive spark, with 2 homeruns and 6 RBI.
Mike Mussina went 6 innings, giving up only 1 run on 5 hits. Mussina struck out 4, and walked 2 on his way to his 18th win of the season. After his 97th pitch, Mussina left in the seventh inning to a chorus of “Moose” calls and tipped his cap to the crowd as he walked off the field at Yankee Stadium for the final time.
Bobby Abreu got the Yankees on the board in the 1st inning, with a 2 run homerun. In the Third inning, Abreu hit his 2nd consecutive homerun, giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead. In the 4th inning, the Yankees pulled away..as three batters reached via walks to load the bases before Derek Jeter ran out a ground ball for a base hit and an RBI. The Yanks would score 4 runs in the inning, including a few more RBI by Abreu to put the game out of reach. Abreu would end the night 3-5, with 6 RBI.
The Yankes will now start their final series ever at Yankee Stadium on Friday against the Orioles.
