Doug Mientkiewicz finally stroked his second hit of the spring on Monday, doubling off Toronto’s Victor Zambrano and raising his batting average to .076. “Raising to .076″ is a scary thought.
Mientkiewicz was brought over to the Yankees for “defensive purposes”, but no matter how great of a first basemen he can be, you can not be completely useless at the plate.
I didn’t like the move when the Yanks signed Mientkiwicz, becuse he never could hit, and was at best a “decent” fielder. His attitude is not team oriented (as we saw with his fued with the Red Sox over the World Series ball), and he is no better than having Giambi and Philips trade 1st Base duties).
What do you think of Mientkiewicz?
