YANKEES 7
TWINS 6

Thursday Afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins, 7-6, and took 3 out of 4 games in the series. Hideki Matsui’s eighth-inning two-run homer, his second blast in as many games, lifted the Yankees to a 7-6 victory.

Kei Igawa did not pitch well at all, allowing five runs and seven hits in five innings. With a 5-2 lead, Joe Torre (for some reason) kept Kei Igawa in, until the game was tied at 5-5. Luis Vizcaino, Scott Proctor and Kyle Farnsworth each pitched scoreless innings in relief, and the Mariano Rovera gave up 1 run in the 9th.

Offensively, the Yankees batted around in the 2nd inning. Melky Cabrera blasted a three-run homer and Robinson Cano tagged a solo shot, while Miguel Cairo had a run-scoring double. With the game tied at 5-5 in the 8th inning, Hideki Matsui hit a 2-run bomb, giving the Yankees a 7-5 lead.

This was a must needed series win for the Yankees, and now they will face the Anaheim Angels, who they have struggle with in the past. Andy Pettitte will face Bartolo Colon in Game 1 on Friday night at the Stadium.
