After the Yankee Organizational meeting in Tampa this past week, the Yankees made a list of their priorites, and made a few decisions. First off, Joba Chamberlain will be in the starting rotation.
After Joba’s injury last season, rumors were that he may be back in the bullpen, but it now seems as if the plans are to have Chamberlain in the starting rotation. Starting pitching is on the top of the priorities list this off season, and with Chien-Ming Wang and Joba Chamberlain in the rotation, Phil Hughes expecting to start and the most likely return of Andy Pettitte…. it seems as if the Yankees have their eyes set on a few free agents. Heading the list of Free Agents are: C.C. Sabathia, AJ Burnett, and Ben Sheets. It was rumored that they may be interested in a tade for Jake Peavy, but his no trade clause is a problem, as he has stated that he does not want to pitch in the American League.
Also on the list of priorities, is picking up a 1st base replacement for Jason Giambi. Number one on the list is Mark Teixiera.
Personally, I still think Joba Chamberlain is more valuable in the bullpen, and if they pick up a free agent like Sabathia, I wouldn’t be surprised if Joba finds his way back to the bullpen. Moving Joba to the starting rotation will also most likely spell the end of Mike Mussina’s career in pinstripes, as there will be no room in the starting rotation.
